I just watched The Chronicles of Riddick on DVD again — excellent sci-fi action movie! The villains in the film were the Necromongers, who went around conquering planets and giving the populations a simple choice: convert to their religion or die. This reminded me of the recent seasons of “Stargate: SG-1″, in which the villains are the Orii, a race of beings with the same convert-or-die mentality.

One may wish to be a fanboy and speculate as to which race would win in a fight; but while the Necros conquer through brute strength, the Orii send down representatives who preach to the people and give them a chance to accept the new faith (before destroying resisters).

Just found it interesting to see two different takes on the dangers of religious extremism!
